How to Find and Replace Formatting in Word

Here I am going to explain how to change or remove formatting, clear all the highlight in the text and how to redact some words in your text by replace command in Word 2019.

How to Change Formatting in your Text;

Here I am going to change all bolded words in the text to unbolded text you can do these steps for other situation like Underline or Italic too.

  • At first you should define for program in which place you want to do your action, for that you should:

1- click on find tab and in “Find in” part choose your desired location here we are gonig to choose “Main Document” But if you want to search in “Footnote” too you should choose Footnote and then repeat these steps again.

2- Click on Replace tab, Place the cursor in “Find what”.

3- Click on Format key and click on Font… format font

4- Here we want to find All bolded words and convert them to unbold words. so in “Font Style” Click on Bold. Click on ok.

5- place the cursor in the “replace with” part. format font find

6- In the Font style choose “Not Bold”. replace not bold

7- Click on ok.

8- Here if you want to see all the words which you replace, you can choose “Replace”. If you want to replace all of them simultaneously, choose “Replace all”.

How to Change all Highlighted Words to Unhighlight words;

1- Go to “Home” tab and in the Font part Click on Highlight part and choose “No Color”.

2- In Editting part click on “Replace”. home replace

3- click on find tab and in “Find in” part choose your desired location Which you want to Program search for words. here we are gonig to choose “Main Document” But if you want to search in “Footnote”. you should choose Footnote in this part.

4- Click on Replace tab.

5- Remove last setting in replace tab.

How to Remove Last Setting in Replace Tab

  • Place the cursor in the “Find what” tab. f no format

  • In order to remove last setting click on “No Formatting”.

  • For removing last setting in Replace with part, Place your cursor in the Replace with section and then click on “No Formatting” key.

6- Now we should define for program find Highlighted words

How to Define For Program Find Highlighted Words;

  • place your cursor in the Find what section.

  • Click on Format and choose Highlight.

  • Click on Replace with part and choose Format and select Highlight. format replace highlight

7- you can replace all words simultaneously If you click on “Replace all”.

Also you can replace them one by one by clicking on “Replace”.

How to Redact Specific Word in the Document;

1- Go to “Home” tab and in the Font part Click on Highlight part and choose “Black color”.

2- Remove last setting, For that you can go How to Remove Last Setting in Replace Tab part.

3- Place your cursor in the Find what part and click on Format and choose Highlight.

4- Place your cursor in the “Replace with” and click on Format and choose Highlight. highlight replace

5- Click on “Replace All”.
