Sometimes you want to check the spelling or the grammar of your text in Microsoft Word program.

Microsoft Word gives you this chance to check your text and recommend you some words with correct spelling.

Here this option will be explained.

How to Define Autocorrect Options for Word.

1- Go to the File tab and click on Option Key.

2- Click on “Proofing”, here there are some boxes which you can check and define them when you correct the spelling of words in your text.

3- If you click on “AutoCorrect Option”.In the next page, in the “AutoCorrect” tab you can choose other options too.

How to Add New Words in AutoCorrect Dictionary;

Sometimes you have a problem to write a word with the true dictation, for that you can use from this capability of Word program.

  • In the “Replace” part write the words which you type them frequently with the wrong dictation and in the “With” section write the words with true spelling.

  • Click on Add key.

  • Click Ok.

How to Remove a Word From AutoCorrect Dictionary;

  • In the replace part write your word.

  • Click on Delete.

  • Click ok.

4- In Writing Style, you can specify which kind of grammar check, which you want to check by the program.

How to Turn the Automatic Spelling Checker on;

1- Click on the File tab.

2- Click on the Options.

4- Click on the AutoCorection Options.

5- Select the “Replace Text as you type” box.

4- In the " When correcting spelling and grammar in Word" section;

  • Select “Check Spelling as you type” box.

  • You can also select “Frequently confused words” box.

How to Hide Spelling Errors;

If you want to hide errors in your current document or in all documents you can follow these steps;

1- Click on the File tab.

2- Click on the Options.

3- Click on the Proofing.

4- In the Exception for part

If you want to hide errors in the current document select your document file and if you want to hide in all documents select “All-New Documents”.

5- Select “Hide spelling errors in the document only” box.

6- Click Ok.

How to Recheck Spelling and Grammar;

If you want to recheck spelling and grammar which you ignored them you can follow these steps;

1- Click on the File tab.

4- Click on the Ok.

How to Check Grammar and Spelling of Text;

1- Go to Review tab and click on Spelling and Grammar.

In your text, you can see some words which have a red line under them and some of them have a blue line.

red lines show spelling mistakes and blue lines show grammar mistakes.

2- For each word, the program recommends some choice to you, you can click on each suggestion which you want to replace it to the word you have in your text.

3- If you click on each suggestion you have some choice for instance;

  • Spell out the word.

  • change all the words in your text with this suggestion.

  • Add this word to Autocorrect list. by that when you want to write this word again, Microsoft Word will notify you of the correct spelling of the word.

4- The program also recommends the correct grammar for text.

5- Sometimes you write the name of the company or some words which the program is not familiar with them, If they are correct, you can choose to ignore items or you can add this word to the dictionary for next time.

How to Active Thesaurus Option;

1- Go to Review tab, and click on Thesaurus key.

2- go and select each word you want.

3- Click on Thesaurus key.

4- The program will suggest you some synonym word for you.

5- you can select each of them and click on insert to replace it by the first word in your text.

How to Create a New Custom Dictionary;

1- Click on the File tab.

2- Click on the Options.

3- Click on the Proofing.

4- Click on the Custom Dictionaries.

5- Select one of the dictionaries which you have on the list.

6- Click on the New key.

7- Choose your desired name for the dictionary and click on the Save key.

How to Add Words in Dictionary;

For adding a new word in your dictionary you can follow one of these Method;

First Method;

At first be sure that you select your desired dictionary as default, For that you should follow these steps;

  • Click on the File tab.

  • Click on the Options.

  • Click on the custom dictionary.

  • Select your desired as default dictionary.

  • In the text right-click on your desired word.

  • Click on the “Add to dictionary”.

Second Method

1- Click on the File.

2- Click on the Options.

3- Click on the Proofing.

4- Be sure that “Suggest from main dictionary only” box is not checked.

5- Click on the “Custom Dictionaries…”.

6- In the Custom Dictionaries dialogue from the dictionary List choose CUSTOM.DIC item.

7- Select “Edit Word List…” key.

How to Edit Words in Dictionary;

For editing words in the dictionary you should follow these steps;

  • Select your desired name.

  • Delete that word.

  • Write your word correctly again and then Click on Add key.

  • In the CUSTOM.DIC dialogue, go to the dictionary section and select your desired word.

  • Click on Delete Key.

  • In the CUSTOM.DIC dialogue select Delete all.

  • Click on Ok.
