How to Save a Model in Tekla Structure

When you are working on a model you should pay attention to this point that after a while you must save your model to prevent losing the model that you were working on it and don’t lose the time which you spend for creating that part of your model, although there are some ways to recover your model, save or create a copy from your model is the easiest way to protect from your time and model, here we are going to introduce the methods which you can save your model and at the end we will talk about each method more precisely step by step with pictures.
For saving models in the Tekla structure program there are different methods, you can save the model which you are working on it manually or you can create save as from your model and save it with the different name in the different location in your computer but you should pay attention to this point that in this regard you change all GUIDs or globally unique identifiers and you will convert your model to another model, another way which you can save your model is creating back up for it, in this regard, you will not change GUIDs in the new model and new model and original model will have same GUIDs.
You can also use from Autosave capability of Tekla structure model and define for the program save your model or drawings after a specific time or after finishing a specific number of drawing.
How to Save a Model Manually in Tekla Structure
When you are working on your model you should pay attention to this point that you must save your model after you some minutes or when you finish one part of your model or finish each drawing which you finished it, it helps you to protect from your model or drawing if your computer or program become shut down for reasons like A power outage in the building or an unintentional shutdown of a computer or a hangover of a program or any other unexpected cause.
You can save your model manually by following these steps:
1- Click on File.
2- Click on the Save as.
3- Click on the Save key.
You can also save your model by holding the “Ctrl” key and press “S” key.
How to Create a Back up in Tekla Structure
It is recommended to create back up from your model when you finish your work at the end of the day because for each reason if the model which you worked on it has problem you have a copy of it in another place.
for creating back up you can follow these steps;
1- Click on the file.
2- click on the Save as.
3- click on the “Save and create a backup copy” key.
4- You can find your back up file in the backup folder in the “Teklastructuremodels” folder.
How to Change Back up Folder Location in Tekla Structure;
Back up Folder is placed in the Teklastructuremodels folder in the drive which you instal the Tekla program in it. Sometimes you want to change the location of your back up file for different reasons, for instance, you want to have them on the drive which your windows have not been installed in it or any other reason which you have.
so if you want to change the location of Backup folder you should follow these steps;
1- Click on File.
2- Click on Settings.
3- Click on Advanced options.
4- Click on the File locations.
5- In the “XS_MODEL_BACKUP_DIRECTORY” line in the value part insert your desired address.
6- Click on Apply key.
7- Click Ok.
Now if you create back up for your model, your model will be saved in the new address.
How to Save as a Model in Tekla Structure
If you want to change the name of the model or location of the model in your PC you can create a “save as” from your model but you should pay attention to this point after you create a save as from your model all GUIDs in the new model will be changed and your new model has no relation to the original model.
For creating a Save as from your model you should follow these steps;
1- Click on File.
2- Click on the Save as.
3- Click on the Save as key.
4- Program inform you by creating Save as from your model all GUIDs will be changed, accept it and click on the Ok key.
5- Click on the Browse key and specify your desired location which you want to save your new model in it.
6- Specify your desired name for your model in the model part name.
7- Click on Ok.
How to Define Autosave Setting in Tekla Structure
Tekla structure program gives you this opportunity to define for the program, when tekla should save the model or drawings automatically, this feature helps you to protect from your model and drawings which you worked on them If your computer shuts down unexpectedly or if you face with an error when you want to open your model.
For changing Autosave setting you should follow these steps;
1- Click on File.
2- Click on Settings.
3- Click on Option.
4- In the left window click on the General.
5- In the Right side, in the “Autosave after every” box, you can specify after how many commands the program should save your model, here you can see number 30 for this command you can decrease this number to number 2 or choose each number that you want except number one.
6- In the “Autosave after creating every” box, you can specify the program save your program after creating how many drawings, your number should be more than one.
7- Click on Apply.
8- Click Ok.
This command will be activated after you restart your program.
How to Change the Location of Autosave Folder.
If you want to change the location of the Autosave folder in your computer you should follow these steps;
1- In the Options Dialogue box click on the Advanced… key.
2- In the left window in “Advanced Options” dialogue box click on the File Locations.
3- In the right window click on the “XS_AUTOSAVE_DIRECTORY” and in the value part insert your desired address.
4- Click on Apply.
5- Click on Ok.
This command will be activated after you restart your program.
How to Keep Autosave file in Tekla
Tekla structure creates save from your model according to your desired number for commands and creating drawings, we explained this subject before.
If you want to keep autosave file after you close the model you should follow these steps;
1- In the “Options” Dialogue box click on the “Advanced…” key.
2- In the left window in “Advanced Options” dialogue box click on the “Modeling Properties”.
3- In the right window click on the “XS_KEEP_AUTOSAVE_FILES_ON_EXIT_WHEN_NOT_SAVING”
If you change the value to “TRUE” after you close the program your autosave file remain in the autosave folder.
If you change the value to “FALSE” after you close the model, your autosave file will be deleted automatically in the autosave folder.
4- Click on Apply.
5- Click on Ok.
This command will be activated after you restart your program.
