How to Modify Parts in Tekla Structure
When you work on your model in Tekla structure, sometimes you need to modify the parts which you are working on them to get your desire shape and form, for instance, you may need to split, combine parts or attach different parts to make your desired assembly or detach some parts from an assembly or explode one assembly , in this text we are going to explain some of them.
How to Split Parts in Tekla
In Tekla structure, you have parts which you can create them by specifying the start and endpoint of them like beams and columns and you have parts which you need specify at least four points to create them like slabs and plates.
You can easily split both of them but for the second group you should pay attention to some points, here we are going to explain both of them;
How to Split Beams and Columns in Tekla
For splitting straight and curved beams or columns or poly beams you can follow these steps;
1- Go to the Edit tab.
2- Click on Split.
3- Choose your desired part
4- Pick the point which you want to split your part from it.
As you can see you can split curve beam and concreate beam by this command.
How to Split Plate or Slab in Tekla
Before you start to choose your desired plate or slab to split them you should pay attention to these notes;
-
Your parts should be located on the X-Y plane, I mean that if Z-axis is not perpendicular to the plate or slab which you are going to split them, these parts will not be split, so if you face with this problem that your part was not been split one of the reason can be this reason.
-
For splitting the slabs and plates you should draw the polygon on it and the edge of this polygon should be placed outside of the plate or slab and the start and endpoints of the polygon should be placed on the one side of it.
For splitting a plate or slab in Tekla you should follow these steps;
1- Click on Edit.
2- Click on Split.
3- Select the part which you want to split it.
4- Specify the polygon edges which you want to split your part from it.
5- Click on the middle mouse button to close the polygon and split the part.
How to Combine Part in Tekla Structure
When you have two parts in Tekla structure, you can combine them and convert them to one part by using Combine command.
- Pay attention to this point that you cannot use this command to combine contour plates, polybeams and slabs.
- The other point which you should pay attention to that is when you want to combine two different profiles or two parts with different properties the combined part inherits the properties of the first part which you will select it in Combine command, for instance, if you want to combine one IPE200 beam with IPE270, the new part will be changed to IPE200.
- The last point which we should pay attention to that is that if the centre line of two parts were not been placed in one line, Tekla structure would combine them by taking the largest distance between the start and endpoints from both parts.
For combining parts, you should follow these steps;
1- Click on Edit.
2- Click on Combine command.
3- Select the first part (pay attention that the properties of this part will be used for the combined part.)
4- Select the second part.
How to Use Added Material Command
if you have different parts in your model, you can attach them and identify them as a one-part in your model. when you attach different parts with the different properties, the properties of all attached parts will be converted and all of them will get the properties of the main part.
for instance, if you had a concrete slab with 7200x6000x10 mm dimension and 1057 kg weight and attached it to a steel plate with 7200x6000x10 mm dimension with 3391 kg weight, you would have a steel plate with 14400x6000x10 mm dimension and 6782 kg weight in the reports of the program and Tekla consider new part as steel part, but the correct weight for our new part is 3391+1057=4448 kg and you must pay attention to this point.
How to Attach Parts in Tekla
For attaching parts to each other you should follow these steps;
1- Double click on the View.
2- Click on the Display.
3- Ensure the “Cuts and added material” box is selected.
4- Click on Edit.
5- Click on “Added Material”
6- Click on Attach to part.
7- Select the main part which you want to attach other parts to it. (pay attention to this point that other parts will get the properties of the main part).
8- Select the parts which you want to attach them.
9- Click the middle mouse button to attach the part.
How to Separate an Attached Part From Each Other In Tekla
To separate members of the attached part from each other you can use two commands.
one of them is detached command and the other is explode command.
when you use detach command you can separate them one by one and you can choose the part which you want to separate it from one assembly but when you explode one assembly part you will separate all the parts at simultaneously.
how to Detach an Attached Part
1- Double click on the View.
2- Click on the Display.
3- Ensure the “Cuts and added material” box is selected.
4- Click on Edit.
5- Click on “Added Material”
6- Click on “Detach from part”.
7- Select the part which you want to detach its sections.
You can select them by clicking on them or by using area selection.
8- Click the middle mouse button to detach the parts.
How to Explode Attached Parts
1- Double click on the View.
2- Click on the Display.
3- Ensure the “Cuts and added material” box is selected.
4- Click on Edit.
5- Click on “Added Material”
6- Click on “Explode part”.
7- Select the part which you want to explode.
8- Click the middle mouse button to explode the parts.
