In this article we are going to explain how to play music and listen on Spotify free without shuffle and also how to use Garmin smartwatch, Fitbit, Wear OS, Samsung wearables like Gears 3, Galaxy Watch and Gear sport and Gear fit2 and Fit2 pro and apple watch to download and listen to the music on them by using this app.

How to Play Music on Spotify.

You can use your mobile/tablet app, desktop app or Web player to listen to music. Follow the steps:

  1. Open Spotify and sign up/log in to your account.

  2. You can search the music you want or use the playlists in Spotify.

  3. Tap on Play button.

NOTE: If you are using Spotify Free on your mobile/tablet, you are not allowed to play the song you want. You can only SHUFFLE PLAY. To play what you want on your mobile/tablet, first you need to go Spotify Premium.

How to Use my Devices to Listen to Music From Spotify

You can use this option only if you have Spotify Premium. To use Local files, first make sure the format of the files is supported by Spotify:

  • mp3 formats are supported.

  • m4p formats are supported unless they have videos.

  • For mp4 formats you need to install QuickTime on your device.

NOTE: M4A format is not supported.

Garmin Watch:

  1. Go to Spotify app on your watch.

  2. Go to Your Library.

  3. Select Add music & podcasts.

  4. Find your music or playlist and select Add.

  5. The music will be downloaded. Tap Update Downloads to see your new songs.

Wear OS:

  1. You need to disconnect your watch from your phone.

  2. Go to Spotify on your watch.

  3. Go to Playback section in Spotify settings and tap Stream on WiFi.

  4. Choose your favorite playlist and download.

Use Siri to Control Spotify App

o To use Siri:

  1. Say “Hey, Siri”.

  2. Give your command.

  3. Say “on Spotify” at the end of your command.

Example: “Hey, Siri, Play today’s hits on Spotify.”

Alexa.

o To use Alexa:

  1. Open Alexa app.

  2. Go to settings.

  3. In Music & Podcasts section, select Spotify.

  4. Select Link account to Alexa and log into your Spotify account.

NOTE: You must say “on Spotify” at the end of your command.

Example: “Play today’s hits on Spotify.”

Google Assistant to Control Spotify App

o To use Google Assistant:

  1. your mobile must be connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google device.

  2. Go to Google Home app.

  3. Select plus icon (+) in the top-left, then tap Music and audio.

  4. Choose Spotify and tap Link Account.

  5. Log into your Spotify account.

Ask Google Assistant to play music on Spotify.

Example: “Ok Google, play today’s hits on Spotify.”

Spotify Voice to Control Spotify App

o To use Spotify Voice:

You need to have a Spotify Premium on your mobile to use this feature.

  1. Tap and hold Search icon to get Spotify Voice on.

  2. Ask Spotify to play a music or podcast clearly using your mobile’s microphone.

  3. Your requested music will display before playing. If it is not the correct one, tap the microphone icon and try again.

How Can I Listen to Music with Spotify Using Samsung Wearables Devices

Samsung wearable devices are smart watches that can connect to your smart phones. One of the features of these watches is that you can listen to music through them. These smart watches are becoming one of the most popular smart devices around the world. They are small and handy which you can carry them on your hand everywhere. Spotify platform works on these watches. You can listen to music and podcasts specially while you are exercising. These watches have various models such as GearS3, Galaxy Watch, Gear Sport, Gear Fit2, Fit2 Pro and some other ones. You can download and install Spotify app on these devices and start using.

GearS3, Galaxy Watch, and Gear Sport watches

If you are using the GearS3, Galaxy Watch, and Gear Sport watches, and you want to download and install the Spotify app on your device, follow the instructions below:

  1. Select Galaxy Apps on your watch.

  2. Search the Spotify app.

  3. Tap on the installation then wait until the installation completes.

  4. Now you can launch the Spotify app on your device and log into your Spotify account.

  5. If you do not have made your Spotify account yet, go to the How to Create a [Spotify Account](How to Create a Spotify Account) page in order to create your own account.

Samsung Gear Fit2, or Samsung Fit2 Pro

If your device is Samsung Gear Fit2, or Samsung Fit2 Pro, the steps to install the Spotify app will be a little bit different. You can follow the steps below in order to download and install the app on your watch:

  1. On your mobile go to Samsung Gear.

  2. Tap on the Samsung Galaxy Apps option.

  3. Go to the ESSENTIALS section.

  4. Enter the Spotify in the search box to find the app.

  5. Select the install option and wait until the installation of the Spotify app completes.

  6. Now you can launch the app on your watch and log into your account.

  7. You can visit the How to Create a [Spotify Account](How to Create a Spotify Account) page in order to create your own account, if you do not have one already.

NOTE: You need to download and install the apps you want on your Gear Fit2, and Fit Pro2 from your smart phone. Despite the GearS3, Galaxy Watch, and Gear Sport watches, you cannot download and install apps through the watch.

How to Use Cortana to Control Spotify App.

Cortana is a Voice Assistant app which supports Xbox One, Harmon/Kardon Invoke speaker, and Windows Insider. You can use Cortana to control your device through voice commands. One of the useful things you can do with the Cortana app is to control your Spotify app using the voice commands. To control Spotify with Cortana, first you need to link the Spotify app to your Cortana app. Follow the instructions below to get started:

  1. Launch the Cortana app on your device.

  2. Sign into your Cortana account.

  3. Go to the settings section.

  4. Choose Spotify app for your preferred music provider.

  5. Log into your Spotify account.

  6. If you do not have the Spotify account, you need to create one. In order to make a Spotify account go to the How to Create a [Spotify Account](How to Create a Spotify Account) page. We have explained the complete steps to make a Spotify account in this page.

Now you are all set to ask Cortana to play your favorite music. But you need to call Cortana first by saying “Hey Cortana”. Look at the example below to learn how to give commands to Cortana in order to play music on Spotify. Note that, because you made the Spotify app your preferred music provider in step number three, Cortana will play music automatically on Spotify by saying the name of a track or podcast.

In the picture below you can see the Connect option in Cortana app. By choosing this option, a new window will open, as you can see in the picture, you have two options to log into Spotify or Sign up for Spotify. You need to choose one of them to complete the process.

How to Use Bixby to Control Spotify App:

Bixby Voice is the Samsung’s voice assistant application. You can use Bixby to control your apps on Samsung devices using your voice. If you have the Spotify app in your Samsung device, you can play music by voice commands. First, you need to make sure your device is Samsung Galaxy Note8/S8 and above. Bixby is not available on older Samsung devices. Follow the steps below to connect Bixby with Spotify on your device. You can also use the instructional pictures to complete the linking process more easily.

  1. On your device, there is a button under the volume key. It is the Bixby button. Long press this button to open the Bixby Assistant.

  1. In order to go to the Manage apps section in Bixby, swipe left the screen.

  2. Select the Spotify app and then tap on the Connect Accounts option.

  1. Sign into your Spotify account using your username and password. In case you do not have Spotify account, go to the How to Create a [Spotify Account](How to Create a Spotify Account) page. You can learn how to make a Spotify account in this page.

  1. Now you are all set to go. Ask Bixby to play a song on Spotify.

  2. You can wake up Bixby by press and hold the Bixby button. Or simply by saying “Hi Bixby”. As an example you can say “Hi Bixby, play a song on Spotify”. Bixby will play a song through your Spotify.

In the picture below you can see the Bixby button. By long pressing this button, Bixby will wake up and you can give commands. Also, you can swipe left the screen to go to the Bixby settings in order to connect your Spotify account to Bixby Voice assistant.

In order to link Bixby assistant with your Spotify, you need to connect your Samsung account to Spotify account. In the second picture you can see how to connect these two. As you can see, after tapping on the Connect accounts key, your accounts will be linked, and you can use your Spotify through Bixby by giving voice commands.

In the third picture, you can see how to wake up Bixby by a voice command. You if have activated the Wake up with “Hi Bixby” option on your device, you can easily use it to call Bixby by your voice. When you say, “Hi Bixby” the voice assistant will be activated and after that you can give commands like “Play a classical music.” If you have linked your Spotify to Bixby, the voice assistant will use Spotify to play music on your device.

How to Add Crossfade on Spotify.

Crossfade and Play Queue are two of the most useful features in Spotify. Crossfade option on Spotify lets you eliminate the gap between the tracks so you can continue your listening without silences in between. Also, you can manage the time of the crossfade. The other option is Play Queue. You can arrange the content you want to listen by adding, removing, and reordering the tracks in Play Queue section. You can also choose the HISTORY option in Play Queue section in order to listen to the last fifty tracks you listened to recently. In fact, you can arrange what plays next by arranging your Play Queue list in Spotify.

Crossfade Spotify on Desktop App

You can turn on the crossfade option using the Spotify desktop app. Follow the steps below to enable and control the Crossfade option in Spotify desktop app:

  1. Launch the Spotify app on your PC, or Mac.

  2. Go to drop-down menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Click on Settings.

  4. Select the SHOW ADVANCED SETTINGS at the bottom of the list.

  5. In the Playback section, turn the Crossfade songs button on.

  6. You can control the crossfade length by Moving the slider.

In the picture below you can see the Crossfade songs option. By toggling the button which is green in the picture you can enable or disable this feature in Spotify. As you can see there is a slider which you can control the length of the crossfade by moving it. If you want to turn the cross-fade feature off, you can toggle button whenever you wish. The button will turn into grey which means this feature is disable now.

How to Enable and Control the Crossfade Feature in Spotify Mobile or Tablet App.

  1. Launch the app on your device.

  2. In the menu bar at the bottom of the screen there is the Home tab. Tap on it and go to the Home section.

  3. In the Home section tap on the Settings option.

  4. In Playback section, under Crossfade, move the slider to select the crossfade length you wish.

  5. You can easily switch on the Gapless option. This will connect the tracks and there will not be any gaps between the tracks while you are listening.

In the picture you can see the Spotify settings section in mobile or tablet app. In the Playback tab, you have cross-fade slider and Gapless button which is grey in this picture. By moving the slider, you can control the cross-fade length in the range of 0 to 12 seconds. If you toggle the gapless button, it will turn into green which means the gapless feature is enabled. By toggling this button you can turn it off again whenever you want.

Spotify Web Player Crossfade

You cannot enable the Crossfade option through Spotify Web Player. You need to have the Spotify apps and you should know that you can only enable and control the crossfade feature through Spotify apps including mobile, tablet, and desktop apps. You are not allowed to enable, disable, or control crossfade using the Spotify Web Player.

How To Find and Play Podcasts and Shows on Spotify.

Desktop app

To find and play podcasts and shows on Spotify desktop app:

  1. Select Browse in the menu bar on the left.

  2. Select Podcasts & Shows.

  3. Find your favorite category then choose the podcast or show you want.

  4. Click the play button on the cover image to start listening.

  5. You can click on the name of the podcast or show to see the episodes.

NOTE: To save the podcast or show, you need to FOLLOW the podcast. Your saved podcasts will be shown in Your Library.

Mobile/Tablet App:

  1. Tap Search icon.

  2. In Browse All section, go to Podcasts.

  3. Find your favorite category then choose the podcast or show you want.

  4. Choose a podcast or show to see all available episodes.

  5. Tap on play icon to start listening.

NOTE: To save the podcast or show, you need to FOLLOW the podcast. Your saved podcasts will be shown in Your Library. If you have Spotify Premium, you can also download podcasts and shows.

Web Player:

  1. Select Home.

  2. Select PODCASTS.

  3. Find your favorite category then choose the podcast or show you want.

  4. Choose a podcast or show to see all available episodes.

  5. Tap on play icon to start listening.

NOTE: To save the podcast or show, you need to click on SAVE TO YOUR LIBRARY. Your saved podcasts will be shown in Your Library, in the PODCASTS section.

How to Listen on Spotify Free Without Shuffle.

You can use Desktop Spotify app, Tablet Spotify app, or listen using Spotify Web Player.

If you are using mobile app you can choose from some especial playlists that have not the shuffle play sign.

How to Watch Videos on Spotify.

If you are using Spotify on your mobile or tablet, you need to upgrade your account to Spotify Premium.

To watch videos on Spotify Free, use Desktop Spotify app. Follow the steps:

  1. Search the title of the video you want to watch in the search box.

  2. Select the episode you want and click play.

To watch videos on Spotify Premium using mobile/tablet app:

  1. Search the title of the video you want to watch in the search box.

  2. Select the episode you want and click play.

How to Use Spotify Radio

Do you know what is the difference between Spotify Playlists and Spotify Radio?

In playlists you can add or remove the tracks or make new playlists. Spotify Radio automatically chooses the songs based on your first choice just like a Radio Station. If you like the tracks, you can add them to your playlists. To go to Spotify Radio:

  1. Click on the song’s menu.

  2. Click Go to Song Radio.

If your Spotify account is premium, you are allowed to download the songs on Spotify Radio.

If you are using Spotify Free, tap or click on the heart icon by the Radio song to save it.

How to Use Filter Option on Spotify.

You can use Filter to show only some specific contents in the lists or to find a specific track in a playlist.

Use Filter to find playlists, albums, and artists in Your Library on Spotify mobile/tablet app:

  1. Go to the list that you want to filter the items.

  2. Pull down and release the screen to see Find in playlists/albums/artists search box at the top.

  3. Enter the item you want in the search box.

  4. Now your list is filtered now and only contains the term you entered in the search box.

  5. Clear your search box to see the original listing without any filter.

How to Filter EXPLICIT Content on Spotify.

Spotify music sometimes include explicit content due to the Spotify policy which is offering music as the artist wants it to be heard.

On your Settings you can switch on/off the explicit content.

To switch off the EXPLICIT on your mobile/tablet:

  1. Go to Home.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. In Explicit Content section, Switch Allow Explicit Content off.

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. In Explicit Content section, Switch Allow Explicit Content off.

NOTE: Tracks containing explicit content are marked as EXPLICIT. By switching the Allow Explicit Content off, you will not be able to play them and they are skipped by the player.

How to Block EXPLICIT Content in Spotify Premium Family Plan.

To disable explicit content for a member in your plan, you need to be the plan’s manager, then:

  1. Go to www.spotify.com/account and sign into your account.

  2. Choose Premium Family from the menu bar.

  3. Select the member you want to stop hearing explicit content.

  4. Turn off Allow explicit content.

How to Find Clean Versions of an Explicit Content on Spotify.

There might be some clean versions of an explicit content on Spotify, you can search for them.

 To find clean versions on Desktop app:

You can search the title of the song to find any versions that are not labeled as EXPLICIT.

  1. Go to the bottom of the track listings.

  2. If there is any clean version, you will find MORE RELEASES option in the bottom-right.

  3. Select a version of the album that is not marked EXPLICIT.

How to Switch on Autoplay on Spotify.

When you turn Autoplay on, the music will never stop at the end of an album, playlist, or selection of tracks. Automatically, Spotify plays similar tracks so you can continue your listening.

Desktop App:

  1. Go to drop-down menu in the top-right corner and click Settings.

  2. Scroll down the settings page to Autoplay section and turn Autoplay similar songs when your music ends option on.
